About the photographs

I'm a New Jersey native and I pay for that every time I travel or spend periods of time living elsewhere. Everyone's got an NJ joke!

Jersey means so many things to me: movement, development, transition, history. Changes to neighborhoods or cities happen sporadically, but I'm getting used to certain waves: Immigrants from one part of the world move into an urban neighborhood, shape it, move away. The next group comes in, adapts, makes changes, or makes seemingly unlivable conditions work for them. They move on. The next group moves in.

When businesses, families or other ventures fail or move, what's left behind can tell its own story. Life can spring up from the rubble, and I like capturing a scene that is surprising, charming, or profound.
